Mama / Mini Lemon Outfits

June 19, 2019

Can you believe that it is already mid June? 2019 is half over! Today, I’m showing off the matching outfits my little one and I wore for Mother’s Day… back in May!! We’re a bit behind over here. Thanks for bearing with me – parenthood takes priority to quick turnarounds for blog posts these days, but I’m still getting them out!

The end of April marked 6 months as being a mama, and mama / mini matching outfits are finally in full swing. I got to celebrate my first official Mother’s Day this year, and how better to celebrate than in matching handmades? We didn’t make any big plans, so soft, comfy clothes were perfect for the occasion.

I’ve totally got a thing for lemons. I don’t know why, but I am always so drawn to prints with them! They seem so bright and cheerful. I’ve been hoarding some other lemon fabric for a while, but when I saw this one, I had to have it! The coral stripes add in a fun color, but also an element that sets this fabric apart from other lemon fabrics (which I know might sound unnecessary, but seriously. There is an abundance of lemon fabric in the world! This, however, was one of the cutest I’d seen).

I’ve worked with some great fabrics from So Sew English in the past, but this was one of my favorites yet! I’ve used a couple of their different substrates, but the majority of my makes have been from their double brushed poly, which is so soft and fantastic. However, this poly rayon spandex feels like a dream. It is soft and smooth, and feels more light and airy than the double brushed poly. Despite the polyester content, it felt like it would be perfect for a pair of light summer pants for the little one to play around in. She’s worn these on some warm weather days recently, and they seem to be a great weight – she’s not getting too hot, but I also get to feel like her legs are covered for days when the evenings might still get cooler, or just when she’s rolling playing around on the floor!

For our matching Mother’s Day set, I wanted something simple and comfortable, that we both would wear again. Nursing access is a must for me right now, so separates are a necessity. I decided to repeat a pattern I really liked last year, and make another Chalk & Notch Pony Tank. A simple make with a lovely neckline, that has a great style factor despite sewing up so easily! Perfect.

For the little one, a pair of Brindille & Twig Big Butt pants. I even made these a size up so that she can continue to wear them for a while. I LOVE this pant pattern on her – the “big butt” set up accentuates her cute little diapered bum so perfectly, and these are so quick and easy to pull on and off! Brindille & Twig tends to run a little large in their patterns, so keep that in mind if you’re sewing some of these up for a little one in your life!

I’m SUPER bummed to tell you that this fabric is currently sold out on the So Sew English online store, so you can’t quite be our outfit triplet. However, I did a little hunting around on their site, and there are still LOTS of great lemon fabrics to be found! If you’re a fan of the color combination in my fabric, check out this coral lemon dot print. For  a less adventurous color palette, this ivory lemon dot is so cute – it would look great paired with a black and white stripe! And if you’re looking for something a little bit out of the ordinary, how about these tropical lemons??

We spent our Mother’s Day relaxing and just enjoying our time together! We had some delicious Sushi, and went for a walk around the pond enjoying some really lovely weather! We’ve both worn our lemons again multiple times since then – this fabric is too cute and soft not to reach for these on a regular basis!

We’ll celebrated Father’s Day this week in a similar fashion. We so look forward to the relaxed days spent together lately – our tiny girl is just growing so fast, we treasure every second! To all the great dads out there – HAPPY BELATED FATHER’S DAY! And to all the maker mamas – you’re doing great! Just like I am, with this blog post… a month late, a full different holiday later. We’re all doing just fine 🙂
