My sewing in 2023 kicked off with an awesome start, thanks to a couple of days home with a feverish little girl who wanted to just snuggle in my chair in the sewing room and relax quietly with a stuffed animal and a show! I finished 5 projects in the first 11 days of the month, which truly has to be a record for me!

This outfit has been some time in the making! I originally picked out this pattern thinking that I would sew him a cute pair of shortalls before the weather got cool last summer / autumn. However, as usual, I grossly overestimated the amount of time and motivation I’d have in the sewing room, and I just never quite got around to making them for him. I kept the pattern at the back of my mind, though, and when this lovely Art Gallery cotton poplin made its way into my fabric collection courtesy of Minerva, I knew EXACTLY what my boy needed!
Last summer, as I was nearing the end of my pregnancy, Emma reached out to me on behalf of her company, Paper Doll Patterns. Based out of New Zealand, Paper Doll Patterns specializes in sewing patterns for babies and toddlers, and had recently released the Ada Top & Dress pattern – the adult complement to their much loved Ava pattern for little ones. I had not heard of the company before, but as I browsed their website, I loved the aesthetic. Emma offered to let me try out the Ada Pattern, and I was on board right away – the dress is very cute, breastfeeding friendly, and has some very fun skirt and ruffle options!
This fabric was kindly gifted to me by Atelier Jupe earlier this year, with no obligation attached. I truly feel honored to have had the chance to get familiar with this fabric company and have the chance to work with some of their fabric – it is fantastic quality and it was a joy to work with! This viscose was part of their Spring / Summer 2021 line, and I’ve already grabbed a cut from their Autumn / Winter 2021 – 2022 line to start up soon!
