Buggy’s 4th Birthday Coco Dress – WITH pom poms!

October 28, 2022

My baby girl is 4 (well, yesterday)! And of course, we have a new dress to celebrate the occasion! While a new birthday outfit has been a standard since she was born, last year was the first year that she really got involved with telling me how she wanted her outfit to look (see last year’s special request dress and bell-bottom set!). This year, she came with two requests again – a comfy knit dress, and a “twirly” dress. She picked the knit fabric earlier in the year during a trip to JoAnn, but we made a special trip to choose what she wanted for the “twirly” dress. This girl loves all things Nightmare Before Christmas, so I chose a week when the licensed character fabrics were on sale, assuming that she’d pick something Jack and Sally-related. She surprised me with her fabric choice, but I love it just as much as she does! A tossed print featuring the sugar skulls of the Coco characters!

We looked through my patterns together, and she chose the Simple Life Pattern Co. Pearl Dress – one that had been on my list of things I wanted to make her, so I was thrilled! I told her I already had a fun matching zipper at home, and was ready to head to the checkout counter when she asked me “But what about the pom poms?”

Guys. What about the pom poms, indeed! We scrolled through lots of pictures of this pattern on the Simple Life Pattern Co. site and on Instagram, but not a single one in my memory featured pom poms. Either I missed it, or this girl simply knows what she likes, but how could I say no. WHAT ABOUT THE POM POMS? We went to the trim department, and it was like this one was just sitting there, waiting for us. The colors match so well! She verified where she wanted the pom poms placed, and we got enough length to make it happen.

This girl is getting so sweet, but also so clever. If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember the sad events of September when my baby boy caught the little C and our trip to California to see one of our best friends and attend a music festival (with almost ALL of my favorite artists playing in one day!!) had to be canceled. I was bummed but I realize that this is life as a parent, and we moved along. As I explained to my smart little cookie that we wouldn’t be taking an airplane to California this week, after all, she sweetly patted my arm and said “That’s alright, Mama! Now you can sew my Coco Dress!”

Clever little thing.

She loves this dress, and was ever so patient in waiting until we had a moment for photos before I let her wear it any time she asked! Since then, this is her go-to when I ask her to pick an outfit for the day. I love what she put together, and I love seeing her love the things that we’ve made together!

HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY to my Buggy Girl!
