FibreMood Sasha with my November “Make My Stash” Fabric

November 30, 2022

Y’all – a new issue of FibreMood Magazine is out, and this one is chock full of styles to make you shine during the holiday season! There were SO many great patterns to choose from this time (as always!), but I’m pretty sure I chose the best one!

This is the FibreMood SASHA! She is a perfect mix of modest, flirty, and sassy – and ready to serve all of your holiday party needs! The dress features a high neckline in the front, with gathered poofy sleeves that end in a cuffed, pleated detail. I chose the two tier skirt option with an elastic waist, but you can also go for a single tier peplum or length the main bodice for a sleeker top. The real feature here though is this back!!

This dress took me MUCH longer to make than anticipated – almost 8 hours!! Somewhere along the way while connecting my sleeve and bodice pieces, I twisted one of the pieces. When I went to attach my neckline facing, I could not for the life of me figure out what was going on! I puzzled over it for honestly an hour or more, finally realizing what I’d done. Before the sleeves are gathered, there is a LOT of fabric happening between the sleeves and bodice so I think that amongst the sheer volume of fabric, I’d missed that I’d twisted it! After the sad unpicking of an overlocked and finished seam, I corrected the issue and it was smooth sailing from there!

I purchased this fabric in 2021 using my birthday discount code from StyleMaker Fabrics. At the end of 2021, I picked this as my November “Monthly Make My Stash” fabric, intending to sew an M7969 to wear for Thanksgiving. However, when I had the chance to sew this pattern from FibreMood ahead of time, I thought this pairing would be lovely, instead! It is just what I imagined, and a really different silhouette from anything else I have in my closet! I’ve clearly taken this pattern in a direction that would be appropriate for the office, a holiday dinner with friends, or a day of enjoying holiday lights and decorations. While I went a bit of a more casual route, you certainly don’t have to!

I can see this dress being made in something shimmery for the perfect New Year’s Eve Dress. I think this has so many cool ways you can make entirely different things from this pattern. I would love to make another version with an extended bodice for a sleek top with a little something extra in the back. Maelle from @maellemakings made an incredible version in a sheer, voluminous black fabric that is total holiday party perfection!

PS – extra special detail? You get a cool open back but don’t have to sacrifice your bra!! If you can’t get away without a bra, or hate strapless bras, don’t you worry – this pattern was very thoughtfully designed and it’s got you covered. (literally.)
