A Tropical Tiger Franken-Top

I don’t know that I’ve ever tried to fully recreate a ready to wear item in my sewing room before, but this top is entirely the result of a very inspiring morning of window shopping on our downtown square. In a quest for a little fresh air and delicious coffee, my little guy and I found ourselves strolling along the square one morning in early April this year. Most of the shops were closed, but we were happy to be out of the house and I took my time rolling the stroller past each and every store front, checking out the window displays. An end-of-summer Rhea Dress

As soon as I saw this fabric, it reminded me of a dress I had in college that I loved. If memory serves, that dress was a bustier-inspired bodice with a straight skirt, sewn in a sateen fabric. My very first Hallon Dress

I can hardly believe this is my very first Hallon Dress. I have been oohing and aahing over this dress on social media for SO long, but without a clear plan I didn’t want to purchase the pattern and just let it sit idly in my downloads folder.  At the end of 2021, I had the pleasure of testing the Smultron Dress, and Sanna ever so kindly offered me a copy of the Hallon Dress in return once testing completed. I obviously eagerly accepted, and when I began planning out my monthly stash-busting makes I knew one would need to be a Hallon.

A Warp + Weft Jessica Dress

I fell in LOVE with these stripes when the Warp & Weft line was originally released back in 2020! We were well into the pandemic and I remember correctly, maybe just reaching a stage where things were starting to open again and people were starting to go out into the world masked? Every single one of my favorite online shops had sold out of this, and I thought I was doomed… Until my desperate search led me to discover a fabric shop about 25 minutes from my house, literally RIGHT on my drive home, AND they had this (and the entire warp and weft line) in stock! I reached out, and they kindly prepared my cuts of fabric and had it ready for me to pick up with minimal interaction at a time when I was very nervous to be venturing into a store. The fabric is so special and beautiful that then I was too afraid to cut into it, after such a long search, and it lived looking super cute on my shelves until I FINALLY did the dang thing in March!!
