I am so excited about this top. I love to see a classic white button-up, but I’ve always felt like I was dressing up in someone else’s clothes when I try to wear one. Whether pairing it with cute trousers for work or denim shorts for a preppy look, I feel like it feels off-base from my usual style and out of place on me. So this is my own take on a collared white-ish button-up that fits my style a bit more!
I’m going to be honest with you guys – about halfway into sewing this dress, all the way up until the moment I got dressed to grab these pictures, I had my doubts about this one! I was so excited about the bold, bright colored blossoms and the way they pop off the black background, but somewhere along the way the combination of big sleeves and bold colors started giving me 1980’s vibes and I wasn’t sure it was in a good way. I rode out the construction, hoping it would all work out in the end and knowing that sometimes, they just don’t….
Minerva recently released a brand new line of exclusive prints, and as a Minerva Ambassador, I had the opportunity to get my hands on them a little early and start sewing them up! You guys know I love a fun print, especially a floral, so as you might guess, I was so excited. The new exclusive line of prints has something for everyone, I think – I had a hard time narrowing my own selection, and although I was very fortunate to get to work with my three favorite prints from the first release, there were many others I would’ve been thrilled to sew with! There were also some that didn’t fit my personal style palette but still featured beautiful prints and colors – so really, go check them out. You’re bound to love something!
Another month, another fabric that has been in my stash for far too long! This dress was my monthly “Sew My Stash” project for May of this year. I’m not sure why I chose to use the same pattern for 2 of my 12 planned makes for this year, but I don’t regret it a bit! Thanks to the cotton jersey, my April version of this dress is a bit more casual, and my favorite way to wear it is with my denim jacket and a pair of casual sandals. This one, however, feels a little more sassy – it is comfy enough that I can wear it for any occasion, but I also feel pretty in it. If the husband and I could coordinate a date night a bit more often, I think I’d be reaching for this and a pair of chunky heel sandals!
