Dinosaur Joggers for the Baby Man (Minerva Ambassador Project!)

January 24, 2023

Right after my sweet baby boy was born in 2021, Andrea of ThimbleLamb kindly gifted me a couple of her sewing patterns for children that she thought might suit my little ones. It was a true act of kindness, and while I will admit this was my first introduction to her brand, she asked nothing of me except to enjoy the patterns if I felt they were right for my babies! I was in a little bit of a postpartum cloud at that time, and while I was still sewing, I was also very behind on some collaborations and my own ideas of things I wanted to sew, and therefore wasn’t able to make any immediate plans to sew up either pattern.

Fast forward to late 2022. As I scrolled through a beautiful selection of fabrics as a Minerva Brand Ambassador, this cute chambray caught my eye. I have always loved sewing overalls for my boy, so I imagined this as overalls right away. I requested a cut, but sometime between when I requested the fabric and when it arrived, I remembered the Sandhill Joggers and I knew this was finally my time to use the pattern!

It was a great pairing! The fabric is a light, breezy cotton, but is sturdy enough that it works really well for this pattern. It made such a great pair of joggers! This pattern features lots of fun details, including knee darts (for reinforcement, but also for fashion!), faux pockets, elasticated waist and ankles, and LOTS of topstitching. Sometimes, the idea of topstitching is very… UGH… to me. It is tedious, it requires full attention to keep your lines straight and even, and sometimes I find myself either unhappy or simply apathetic with the results. But the topstitching on this pattern is such a great detail! It elevates the pattern, and honestly it probably also adds some reinforcement that is welcome with an early walker who is into EVERYTHING. This is truly a lovely pattern, and the pairing with this fabric made me so happy!

These joggers and a matching tiny pair for a friend of mine whose baby is due any day now were my very first projects completed in 2023! These were pretty quick sews, and they fit in so well with my boy’s wardrobe. Super happy with these makes, and I look forward to more Sandhill Joggers in my boy’s future!
