Matching Family Outfits using a Repurposed Old Button Down Shirt

Last summer, I had a little fun sewing up Father’s Day presents for my husband and his brother. Early in the Spring, I recognized that I had somehow ended up with a small collection of button down shirts from my husband and his brother that had ripped, torn, or otherwise worn out in a way that was no longer usable. I’d kept them to the side, thinking that someday it would be fun to use the fabric to make something new. As I was poking around looking for what I might make next, I came across these old shirts and realized that I had a great opportunity!

Mama Mini Swiss Dot Set

This romper and top remain my very favorite mama mini matching set I’ve made in our almost year and a half together! When I chose to work with this Swiss Dot cotton fabric, I had absolutely no plan in mind… Which is COMPLETELY out of the norm for me! I thought the color was lovely in the online photo, but I was well aware that I was taking a gamble on a color that could be wonderful, or could wash me out entirely! The gamble paid off, and I’ll forever treasure this matching set! September / October 2019 Recap

Another Recap – and another super late post! I’m excited to look back over my September / October makes today, halfway through December. I think next year, I’ll be switching to quarterly instead of bi-monthly recaps, because I just can’t seem to keep up!! Over the two months I’m recapping today, I made 12 new garments – my three favorites were the matching outfits I made for our family for our tiny girl’s first birthday! I did more “selfless” sewing over this period than usual, and also did a little scrap busting by sewing up a headband out of some leftover leggings fabric. I didn’t include any photos here, but that has probably been my most worn item from this period!
