Athina of AK Patterns came back from a hiatus and hit the ground running by releasing the Brittany Skirt last week – a new skirt pattern that is perfectly on trend for your Spring and Summer wardrobe needs!! The Brittany Skirt rides the line between your standard, gathered skirt and the dungaree / bibs / overall trend that has taken over this year. The over the shoulder straps add a fun touch that really takes this classic style to another level! I participated in the Tester Group for this pattern back in the fall, and I’m so happy to finally share it with you today!

I’ve got another awesome Minerva Make up on the blog today! This Orchid Midi Dress that I sewed up back in June is made in the most beautiful large scale floral Lady McElroy cotton lawn. It was the perfect dress to make to participate in so many of the awesome sewing challenges that popped up in June, and has gotten plenty of wear since then! I first discovered the world of garment sewing while on the search for a particular, sold-out dress – a V-Neck woven dress with a solid bodice and a great, novelty print skirt. Despite becoming an avid sewist, I never did attempt to recreate that particular dress, partially because I’ve STILL been searching for the ideal V-Neck dress pattern!! I’ve been sewing Athina’s patterns for quite a while now, and for some reason I just had not taken the time to sew the Lisa dress. When she contacted me to let me know that she’d be hosting an entire month of sewists focusing on the Lisa and Kimberly dresses, I knew I couldn’t say no – it was the perfect opportunity to sew up a V-Neck dress. Would this finally be the one??
Athina Kakou is back at it again with a lovely knit dress pattern, just released on Wednesday! This one has a really interesting silhouette – sleek and sophisticated, certainly not the t-shirt dress we have all come to know and love in knit fabrics! The Suzy dress features multiple sleeve lengths, a boat- or scoop-neck, and a slim, midi-length skirt with a great layered slit detail. When I had my first glimpse at the dress, it reminded me quite a bit of the equally sassy and sophisticated styles of the 1960s… So when Athina asked if I’d like to try out the pattern, I was thrilled!!
