Sewing a Tiny Taco Set with Minerva

June 7, 2021

Hope you’re prepared for a cuteness overload.. Because it’s TACO TIME! 🙂

This fabric was designed a few years ago by Dana Willard, as part of her Day Trip collection inspired by road tripping through Texas. I have always loved the fun, whimsical prints and colors in this collection, and actually purchased a cut of this same fabric to sew myself a dress in May 2018 (the photos we used to announce that I had a bun in the oven!). My little one LOVES tacos (they are second place as her favorite dinner food, topped only by chicken and “cha wise” – aka french fries!), and always comments on the tacos on that dress when I wear it. So when I had the opportunity to sew with it again, I jumped on it!

I decided this time I’d make something for her. I opted for my favorite pattern combination for her cute little toddler self – the Brindille & Twig Bummies and Lounge Sweatshirt. I love the way these two patterns work together for a fun matching set, but they also work really well as separates with other things in her closet. The colors in this set make it really easy to match this up with almost any solid color!

When I finished sewing her little outfit, I had just enough to squeak out a little something for the current bun in the oven! I had a couple of smaller baby patterns already cut and put together, so I went through my folders and found my 3-6 month Big Butt Pants pattern. Overall, it took me about an hour and half to sew up all three of these little pieces. Tiny clothes are so much fun to sew – these came together so quickly, and entirely on the serger!

This season has felt so great for us. All of our family is vaccinated, and we’re approaching full inoculation for everyone. We are planning some time to see my side of the family for the first time since Christmas 2019, and starting to open up our activities a little more to seeing friends and family. Our little one has started back at daycare, and she is THRILLED to be spending time with kids again. The weather is more and more beautiful each day, and we’re getting outside for walks and playtime more than I have in the past months (I hate the cold.) Work isn’t constantly kicking my butt over the last couple of weeks, and life in general just feels pretty good. It has felt like a full body sigh of relief, lifting a weight off my shoulders I hadn’t even realized was there.

On top of all that great stuff, my bump is growing and we are excitedly looking forward to welcoming a new little one at the end of the summer. Our daughter is very excited to be a big sister, and I can’t wait to see how she will be with the baby! Life is feeling good around here – I hope that you are feeling the same! If not… Maybe try some tacos? They always tend to make my day a little better.
