I fell in love with this fabric immediately when I saw it online. The color is such a beautiful rosy shade of grape purple, and I had a good feeling that it would pair nicely with so many things in my closet. It made a lovely Christmas outfit this year!
I have this weird romantic fascination with big, billowy linen beach pants. Normally, in my head, they are white linen, but when I saw this “warm sand” color, I thought it would be perfect for my big beachy dream pants, but also a warm enough color that I might be able to extend the wear a little bit into autumn without looking super silly in my big white linen pants!
Alright, guys. You may have noticed that I am not your go-to girl for ideas on how to hack a pattern. There are some people who inhabit that niche in the sewing world beautifully, but I am decidedly NOT one of them. Throughout my life, I’ve often thought of myself as faux-creative. What I mean by this is that if you give me a great recipe, I can give you a great meal. This holds true in the literal kitchen, where I can cook anything and everything from a recipe and make it taste pretty authentic, but if you give me a handful of items and ask me to go to town Chopped-style, you will find yourself sorely disappointed. It translates out of the kitchen, though, into almost all creative aspects of my life, including sewing. I’m always so impressed by those of you that see a RTW piece and hack an existing pattern into a perfect match… But that just ain’t me. But today, I’m showing off one of my more detailed attempts at pattern hacking!
I originally chose this lovely, ivory colored fabric with the intent of adding a cute, very neutral piece to my wardrobe. I figured it would be something that I could pair with almost anything, adding accessories to outfits to make it brighter or more neutral. But then Tabitha Sewer came along with her snazzy button collection this past spring, and I had to add some extra to this sweatshirt right away!
