Mama Mini Swiss Dot Set

March 11, 2020

This romper and top remain my very favorite mama mini matching set I’ve made in our almost year and a half together! When I chose to work with this Swiss Dot cotton fabric, I had absolutely no plan in mind… Which is COMPLETELY out of the norm for me! I thought the color was lovely in the online photo, but I was well aware that I was taking a gamble on a color that could be wonderful, or could wash me out entirely!

When the fabric arrived in the mail, I was so relieved to find that I loved it! The color was a warmer tone than I expected, and I felt it gave my cheeks a rosy glow rather than matching my skin tone too closely. It’s a great neutral that matches so many things in my wardrobe, but I love it most paired with my black jeans. Swiss dot is always reminiscent of youth for me, so pair that with a sweet rosy pink color and it could absolutely become a more demure piece. I think this is why I love it paired with black pieces – they add just a bit of edge!

In these photos, you can see that the top is pretty versatile! It pairs well with leggings and shorts, and can go from more dressed up to very casual with ease. I also like it front tucked into a pencil skirt. But my favorite match of all was pairing it with the world’s sweetest romper!

When I decided to sew up a romper for little bitty, I planned for it to be entirely swiss dot on the outside. I love using leftover remnants from my own past projects for baby projects, so I started looking through my old things for something cute to use for the lining. I thought this tropical cotton that I’d used for a maxi dress in 2017 would be a fun choice, but then once I cut it out and sewed up the lining and outer together, I just couldn’t decide! I ended up setting this romper aside nearly sewn, and coming back to flip the bodice inside out and right side in a couple of times a day, trying to figure out which side I wanted to be the outer and which the lining! I finally decided to go with the bright floral as the outer, and I’m so glad that I did!

My girl has long since outgrown this – these photos of us were taken in May 2019! But I will always treasure these matching photos of us together in our sweet little swiss dot outfits.
