A Tropical Tiger Franken-Top

I don’t know that I’ve ever tried to fully recreate a ready to wear item in my sewing room before, but this top is entirely the result of a very inspiring morning of window shopping on our downtown square. In a quest for a little fresh air and delicious coffee, my little guy and I found ourselves strolling along the square one morning in early April this year. Most of the shops were closed, but we were happy to be out of the house and I took my time rolling the stroller past each and every store front, checking out the window displays. After falling in love with a top in a window, this is the resulting me-made!

An end-of-summer Rhea Dress

As soon as I saw this fabric, it reminded me of a dress I had in college that I loved. If memory serves, that dress was a bustier-inspired bodice with a straight skirt, sewn in a sateen fabric. It had some cute details on the strap trim, which I’m realizing now I channeled into the trim I chose for this dress without even realizing it! This dress is a total departure in shape from the one I was reminded of, but it perfectly suits my current style and I am so happy with how it turned out!

FibreMood Magazine Issue 19 – The Vanya Top and some big sleeve energy!

Issue 19 of FibreMood Magazine came out last week!! I had the chance to sew one of the patterns ahead of time again, and this time I chose the Vanya. This is a really cool pattern – I was very drawn to the dress option, but I am constantly recognizing a need for tops in my closet so was very excited that this one came with a top option included! The overall idea of this pattern is a figure accentuating, princess-seamed pattern with a squared off neckline and BIG poofy sleeves. The dress option features a side zip and a great side slit. The top has a zipper that is inserted to separate fully at the hem, which I really like.
